"Where training the dog comes first"

January through March


	Cajun HRC Upland February 4th 2012 We attended a one day Upland 2 tests running our own dogs in both tests. Lance running one dog both tests for Bill Autrey. Train passed both tests, Bret passed both tests, Alice passed one and Bill's dog passed one. What a miserable day it was raining most of the day and cold. We would quarter our dogs bring them to heal and then they would plant the birds that had been in a bucket to keep them dry, after planting the bird we would re-quarter into the bird for the flush, shot and fall or fly away with the dog being steady. It was tough as in the rain the chuckers would not flush well mostly flush 5 feet and land, you better have a steady dog on that scenario. West Mississippi HRC Regular Hunt February 18th & 19th 2012 We attended our first Southern B2B and had a ball. The weather was again miserable with rain and cold all day Saturday, they had a wonderful meal on the club, raffle and ribbons ceremony. Sunday morning we had drizzle and cold in the morning and the after noon was cool and partly cloudy not bad moving around with the dogs. Lance ran all three of our dogs in Finished both day's as Cindy was running 7 Started dogs for Bill Autrey both days. Lance ran one of our new started dogs Fowler both days. Train - 2 finished passes, Bret - 1 finished pass, Alice - 2 finished passes for HRCH title. Lance passed Fowler both days in started. Cindy passed all 7 started dogs for Bill both days, 3 obtained Started Titles Sarge, Boss & Anna. Central Louisiana HRC Regular Hunt March 10th & 11th 2012 We ran Central LA which is the home club for this area, they have wonderful land to test on. The judges set up some very challenging Finished tests but they where fair and fun. The ducks they had where the size of Ross Geese we have never seen mallards that size before they must have been feeding steroids. We meet allot of nice people especially the Archers from Georgia who bought a littler mate to out Crash little Sioux. Saturday Cindy ran Train and Bret in Finished Train lined the land blind and did the water flawless. Bret had very nice runs also and they both passed. Cindy also ran Crash our 14 week old puppy in Started she picked up all the marks and just about came all the way back with 50% on both land and water, she did not pass but we had a lot of fun and the gallery loved watching that little girl go. They had a puppy series and Crash passed that along with her littler mate Sioux. During the puppy series there where two young boys that ran their puppy and then we brought out our HRCH UH 500 point Gus and let the two young men do a mark and a blind with a big dog. We all had a lot of fun and enjoyed by all who watched. Lance ran Alice in Finished and she also had very nice runs on both series and passed. Lance also ran our Fowler in started and passed. Sunday was a bit different Mr Bill had gotten ill over night and was not attending so between Mandy Clieslinsk, Joe Perron and myself we ran all 8 of Mr. Bills dogs for him. Since I was running Mr Bills started dogs we decided Lance should run Crash in Started. Train, Bret & Alice all passed finished Crash had a day about the same she tried very hard but just didn't make it. I also passed the 3 started dogs for Mr Bill. Lance also ran our Fowler in started and passed for started title. One month ago this dog had no desire to even pick up a fun bumper and now he has a started title. It's wonderful seeing how our HRC family pulls together when something is needed and I think that is why I love this game so much. Amite River HRC Regular Hunt March 24th & 25th 2012 Before we attended Amite I had been told by people that they are one of the finest HRC clubs out there and we would really enjoy ourselves and have good tests. Well everyone was right we had a lot of fun meeting new friendly people and challenging but fun finished tests. Cindy ran Gus as test dog both days for our finished flight and bye dog and pick up dog. Cindy also ran Train and Bret in Finished both days, on Saturday we started with water, the pond had sticks and logs and bushed in it and we ran right through it all. When I brought Gus to the line as test dog there where cattle wanting to get into the water the bird technicians where doing a pretty good job of get them to go away but when we got to the blind I sat him at the shoreline for his last cast a cow came up from behind and nudged him. Needless to say I had a hard time convincing him that he should go back on land to get the bird but he did it. Train and Bret did fine on water. Lance ran Alice and she was vocal again on water but did not break on the honor. We went to land we where running into the wind with a blind between two very tight marks. Train did great and passed. Bret smelled the blind from the line when I set him up for the right had bird and I just could not pull him right to pull him off that line. I did handle on that mark and convinced him not to go there, so when it came time to put him back on the line to the blind he figured you don't want me to go there so he went out for lack of control. Alice punched right through the sent cone picked up all marks and passed. Sunday we started with a very nice land series running down hill the marks where thrown right, left and center with a blind between right and center marks the honor dog started the test with a dry shot. Gus came to the line as test dog the first bird come out fine then the next two birds came out about at the same time I shot Gus saw them and he picked them all up and lined the blind. One dog between test dog and Train and when we came to the line the same thing happened the last two birds came out at the same time but the third bird was thrown then the second bird the judges didn't have time to say no bird but he picked them up clean and lined the blind. I believe the judges talked to the bird boys after that as they came out in the right order after that. Bret nailed all marks and also lined the blind. Lance and Alice come to the line and the honor dog is very loose which is making Alice nervous she nails her marks and one whistles the blind onto honor the next dog comes out they have a no bird on the third mark. Lance takes Alice back while they get this reset and the test restarts we could see she wanted those birds. Lance started the test with the dry shot, shot the first bird and when the third bird was coming out he wanted to be ready to get off the line so he turned to put the gun down and Alice saw his left leg move and she broke. Even though all the dogs didn't pass we had fun learned somethings about what we need to train on and that is the whole point of running these fine events. Funny how there is so much more to write when a dog goes out instead of passing.
